The First Grace Experience

You know what is the worst part in a spiritual journey? Guruji says- “The most painful experience for a devotee, is when a devotee feels a distance or when he feels the connection is lost” Its very true. That pain is just too much. But I feel- its also sad when you start normalizing the miracles in day to day life and take them for granted.

You get so used to it that you dont really value the small miracles as much as they deserve. For example, you are doing some social service and you pray that your train should delay a bit and you know that your train will be delayed without a doubt. These miracles are so normal for any devoted person.

So those little grace experiences are so important. Those magical moments are as precious as they are even though you have got used to them.

Its guruji's Birthday tomorrow and I want to share some of my grace experiences. So that, I dont forget how much a Guru cares. 

So it started on 3 Aug 2007 when I did my first Sudarshan kriya. I saw Guruji’s picture(Its a big deal when you see his picture for first time, because you will never forget his eyes). Amongst the 7 friends who joined the course, I was the only one who never did the homework during the course.

Homework was- doing the breathing practices we learnt in the course. But funny thing, none of those friends continued on the path after the course and I started doing my Kriya and called the organizers if I can be a volunteer too.

So, the story goes like-I have been a good student all my life. Always amongst the top 10 at least. But I never understood the electronic circuits and we had a whole subject in my 5^th Semester and it had everything about circuits and electronics. (God I swear I hate those circuits) and for the first time in my life, I failed. I got a fail mark in one subject.

Now, remember, solution always comes first and later comes the problem. So I was introduced to my Guru first and later I got the backlog. I realized this later -first a solution has to enter in your life and then only your life will bring a problem/ challenge to you. It is a very very important lesson indeed. Extremely important to remember.

So I remembered the deal my teacher had mentioned. -“Grace is something that makes impossible, possible – when you have given 100% to make possible possible.”

My ‘‘Testing the Guru’’ phase had begun. So I told guruji in my prayers that I will do Sudarshan Kriya for 45 days but I honestly can not study that subject again. So, when I apply for revaluation of my exam papers, please get me through so that I can maintain a record that I never had a backlog in any exams. And I specifically said that I will wait until 19 Sept till 5 pm.. otherwise, I have to start studying it again.

And At 4.55 pm sharp on 19 sept, I gave up. I felt I must not have given my 100% so I have to study it again. I wanted to eat something so I went to kitchen. The doorbell rang. Postman handed me a letter from university. I had got 8 more marks as grace and I had passed the subject. Usually only 4 marks are given as grace marks. But I got 8 :) . So the record remained clean. I passed all my exams in first attempt in my engineering maintaining the first class. It was exactly 5 pm on 19 sept.

That was my first Grace experience.

Later I also got used to the grace experiences. In my next semester- It was 6^th semester. There were 11 days left for final exams and I insisted that I want to do the advanced meditation course within those 11 days which would have taken 7 days including the travel time. Everybody knows that engineers study only during their preparation leaves. Anyway, I did the course and when I came home, I went to my tuition class immidiately after I got down from the train. I had only 4 days in my hand to prepare for the exam. Do you know what was the first news I got??

The university had postponed the exams by 1 month :):):):)
